About Whispering ASMR
Whispering is where ASMR started for a lot of people. The voice is low and close, with the crisp consonants and soft breaths that a normal voice hides. You'll find whispered chats, tutorials, book readings and roleplays, plus whispering mixed with tapping or brushing. On a binaural mic, moving from ear to ear, it can feel like someone is sitting right beside you.
Whispering differs from soft spoken, which uses the voice at a low volume without dropping to a whisper, and from inaudible whispering, where the words are deliberately unclear. If close whispers feel too intense, start with soft spoken or turn the volume down a notch.

Questions
Why does whispering give people tingles?
Nobody knows exactly. The closeness and crisp detail of a whisper seem to be what does it, especially when it moves between the ears.
Is whispering or soft spoken better for sleep?
Both work. Whispering is more textured and can be tingly; soft spoken is smoother, which some people find easier to drift off to.
