About Binaural 3D ASMR
Binaural recording uses two microphones set where ears would be, often inside ear-shaped silicone. Because each mic picks up sound the way one ear would, playback in headphones keeps direction and distance: a brush near the left ear sounds close and to the left, a tap behind the mic sounds behind you. That sense of space is why binaural recordings feel so close and real.
You need headphones or earbuds; on a speaker, binaural sounds flat. It is also different from ear to ear, which is a style of moving between sides, while binaural describes how the sound is captured. Many ear to ear videos are binaural, but not all.

Questions
Do I need headphones for binaural ASMR?
Yes. The 3D effect relies on each ear hearing its own channel. On speakers, the sound mixes together and the effect mostly disappears.
What is the difference between binaural and stereo ASMR?
Both have a left and a right channel. Binaural records through ear-shaped mics, so you also hear depth and distance, not just side to side.
